The Maroussia Association (Maroussia) Ltd in conjunction with industry and Maroussia Platinum Partner, Strategix Training Group will host "Women Take the Wheel" Program (WTTW) to attract, train and place women into the transport industry. The program is a comprehensive 8 week course designed to train and licence female participants with a Certificate III in Driving Operation with a Heavy Rigid licence.
The need for this program is backed by industry feedback, documented skill shortages as well as the report produced by Volvo in 2016 - .
Employers - road freight operators will be invited to be involved in the program and become Employer Ambassadors which will include undertaking a Mentoring Skill Set. Find out more on become an Employer Ambassador.
Stakeholders - National Transport Insurance, BP Australian and Volvo Australia have been invited as key partners to the program. Maroussia will invite other partners that will add value to the project package as partners of the program.
a. Address driver shortage, ageing workforce and diversity issues
This program will introduce new female drivers into the industry by training and licencing women to introduce new drivers and bring diversity balance to the transport and logistics workforce.
b. Improve Employment Outcomes
i. Develop capability of employers to take on new entrants
Employers will be encouraged to undertake formal Employer Mentoring training (1 day course, employer funded/or sponsored) to improve capability to manage new entrants (in this program - specifically females). The mentoring program will be part of a broader strategy to develop a Maroussia Employer Ambassador Program (in development).
ii. Fill the gap between obtaining licence and gaining employment
Partner with NTI to formalise the requirements (development of driver training pathway, driver work experience program) to insure new driver entrants to the industry. This will address insurance age related restrictions and experience gaps that restrict the inclusion of new drivers onto insurance policies. Guide employers to implement a process to provide newly licensed drivers with structured work experience that is documented and verified according to guidelines set by NTI.
a. Business engagement
Strategix Training Group would use their client network and Maroussia would approach Member businesses and GenR8 employers to agree to be involved as Employer Ambassadors to interview and place graduates and fill available vacancies at the end of the program.
b. Participant engagement
Strategix Training Group will lead the marketing campaign to attract and recruit participants into the program and be responsible for advertising though Seek, Social Media and through their student database.
c. Stakeholder/Employer/Sponsor Engagement
Maroussia to lead the stakeholder engagement with VET 4 T&L, TLI Connect and corporate partners.
d. Program Delivery
Strategix Training Group will deliver the 8 week course, including information sessions and graduation. During the training, Employer Ambassadors would be encouraged to visit training sessions, offer site tours and provide company information including employment applications.
Commencement date for the pilot program is 31st January 2018, based at Strategix Training Group, Head Office, Loganholme. Training - Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Minimum participants - 15
Student Fee - $20 per participant
Venue/Training Room - provided by Strategix Training Group. The head office in Loganholme will be used for the information sessions, training delivery and graduation ceremony.
Graduation Certificate - to be provided by Strategix Training Group
Consideration is being given to running additional programs in regional areas.
