On Friday 10th August 2018, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure Michael McCormack, announced that and the Maroussia Association Lt (Maroussia LTD) have been successful in their bid for funding under the 2018-19 Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative Fund. The Heavy Vehicle Safety Around Ports project is funded by the .

The Port of Brisbane is heavily reliant on the road transport network, with more than 3.1 million vehicles travelling on port roads annually, including a large proportion of heavy vehicles. This is set to increase as the freight task grows.

Both the Maroussia Ltd and PBPL are strongly committed to the heavy vehicle safety agenda, and this project will deliver safety-focused, tangible improvements using evidence-based findings.

The project will pilot a number of road safety measures across fatigue, speed and people to determine the most effective solutions in reducing near-misses and accidents. It is hoped the project will deliver benefits and learnings for the entire road freight industry in Australia.

On Friday 14th December 2018, the SmartCap fatigue technology trial was launched to improve heavy vehicle safety around the Port of Brisbane. See the full media release here.

    Heavy Vehicle Safety Around Ports - Skin Checks

    Skin Cancer is Australia’s most common form of cancer, with 2 in 3 Australians developing skin cancer before the age of 70. Early detection is vital in saving lives.

    As part of the Heavy Vehicle Safety Around Ports project, all businesses within the Port of Brisbane precinct have the opportunity to receive free skin checks for their workforce during 2019.

    Practitioners will set up on-site at your depot/ office and provide a 15 minute full body skin check assessment for up to 30 of your team. Sessions run from a half day to a full day, depending on participant numbers.

    SPACES ARE LIMITED TO SEVEN BUSINESSES - BE QUICK TO REGISTER!

    To be involved you need:

    • to provide a private room with good lighting, a table, 2 chairs and access to a power point.
    • a minimum of 14 individuals to receive skin check assessments.
